I’m finding it hard to believe that we are already midway through January. Time is flying by. Christmas 2016 seems like a distant memory with our Christmas decorations packed away, our New Year’s Eve hats and whistles have been replaced with diaries and calendars, and we have all embraced 2017 with vigour and excitement.

As I think about the days, weeks and months ahead I too am filled with expectancy. And, as I speak to people there is a sense that 2017 is going to be a good year. In thinking about the year ahead and how quickly it has come upon us and how fast we have all embraced the year I’m reminded to keep it slow and to remember to be still through it all. Life, schedules, demands and obligations have a way of creeping in without us even recognising the speed at which we are living. All of a sudden mid-year hits and we find ourselves exhausted and longing, once again, for the long days of summer whereby we can recharge, refocus and relax.

But, what if we chose to live differently this year? What if we purposely made time to calm our body, soul and spirit?

Over the past few years, I have embraced being still within my daily life. I find time each day to calm my mind and heart to keep me well, holistically. For me, I still myself (mind, body and soul) and pray. There is a scripture that says, ‘be still and know that I am God’ another that says we are to ‘renew our minds daily’. I find great solace in these two lines and have determined to live them out on a daily basis.

The health benefits of being still, and ‘resting’ are undisputable, and today I’d like to encourage you to make space in your day to simply be still. Some of the health benefits are:

  • Improved Memory Function
  • Overall Brain Function
  • Relieves Stress
  • Fights Insomnia
  • Improves Blood Pressure
  • Cardiovascular Health

So lovely friends, find a place that is yours whether it be a quiet spot on the beach, sitting by your pool, a tranquil space in your home or simply piece of grass at your favourite park. Sit in a comfortable position, gently close your eyes and focus on your breathing. As you breathe in and out allow your heart and mind to relax with every exhale. For me, I breath in God, creation, love, peace and I settle into my time of quiet.

To begin start with five minutes and as you do this daily begin to add a minute onto your time each day. Before long you will find yourself craving this time, you will experience the benefits within a week of dedicated time, and it will become something you can’t or want to live without.

I believe that 2017 is going to be a good year, for all of us. A busy one, perhaps. But one that through dedicated time to being still will allow us to find the peace that is beyond our understanding, a peace that will speak to the very fabric of our being and will help us live strong, confident lives and we will be amazed at how much we have to give. I believe that as we embrace this practice, we will find ourselves mid-year not longing for hibernation or long sleep but rather renewed energy for the second half of what will be a fantastic year!

Blessings to you all and as usual if anything I write about strikes a chord within you and you’d like to chat more. I’m available and would love the opportunity to walk with you on this journey of life.

Much love,
