Christmas is definitely in the air whether it be through the constant flow of Instagram stories of families sharing images and time-lapse videos of tree decorating, or the endless ‘special offers’ flooding our feeds with ideas for that perfect Christmas gift. Our weekends are filled with dance concerts, Christmas performances and the arrival of Santa’s workshop in most shopping centres. Make no mistake – Christmas is quickly approaching.
With all the busy and the bustle, I’m reminded of the reason for this beautiful season which, in my faith tradition, is the celebration of the birth of Jesus who is often referred to as the ‘Prince of Peace’. This name was given to Jesus because scripture tells us that Jesus can restore every broken relationship and provide a well-ordered and balanced life, and offer assurance of eternal life. A tall order for one individual but nonetheless time and time again, in my own experience and others, I have had the opportunity to witness that Jesus’ love never fails, and the brokenness is restored.
I find it fascinating that as many nations prepare for the Christmas season and we take time to pause and consider things like love, hope, goodness and generosity it is a PEACE that the world needs most. I think about cities like Hong Kong and countries like Chile and the unrest there, the ongoing crisis in the Middle East and closer to home the fires are experiencing. We are desperate for peace to prevail.
I’m reminded of a beautiful song that helps us understand where peace begins. How can we be a part of spreading this peace? How do we live out the message that was and remains faithful through the Prince of Peace? May the words from this song speak to you, may they permeate your heart and soul and may peace begin with you and as it starts there may it spill into the streets and beyond. With every step we take, every word we speak, may we be vessels of peace not only this Christmas season but beyond.
And let it begin with me
Let There Be Peace on Earth
The peace that was meant to be
Brothers all are we
Let me walk with my brother
In perfect harmony.
Let this be the moment now.
Let this be my solemn vow
To take each moment and live
Each moment in peace eternally
Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me
Much love,
