I recently saw this video of Josh Shipp sharing his life story and I was captivated by his first line. He tried to take his own life, he was tossed from pillar to post, home-to-home and was abandoned by his parents. He learned to cope and to ‘get by’ but life wasn’t easy nor was it good until he met a 350-pound man who changed everything.
I’ve included the video below and I hope you’ll watch it and not only watch it yourself but share it. I’ve heard it said and I believe this quote is attributed to Denzel Washington which is, “So you never know who you touch. You never know how or when you’ll have an impact, or how important your example can be to someone else”. This is so very true, we never know who it is we will impact and how our words and our being will and does impact those around you. This is something we need to remember as we travel through life. Whether it be our own kids or the kids who come through our home, perhaps it’s the lady at the supermarket, the employee at the petrol station or the person who serves you at your favourite restaurant.
Somewhere along the way, you will impact a life and in fact, you already are. I love how (in this video) Josh refers to Rodney, his new 350-pound foster parent. He’s certainly not what Josh expects and he is the one who changes this troubled child’s life forever. He truly saw Josh and he (Rodney) was unshakable in his love and commitment towards Josh.
I guess my question today is, who are you a Rodney to? Who are you committed to and who is it that you believe in even when the odds are seemingly against the situation or the person, even when it all looks bleak and like it’s time to give up? Who is it that you are caring for in a way that changes their life?
Watch this short video and be inspired.
With love,
